Ornamental Balustrade
Duo John Miller and Simon Rackham.
They extended the duo occasionally and below is one of those occasions when a changing population of available musicians in London would be invited to escape the conventions of their musical day jobs and participate in a bit of alchemical experiment and musical boundary crunching.
Currently John Miller's art is viewable (one at a time) by visiting his website. At the time of writing it has only one page (the front one) and no text whatsoever. If you want to see another picture just refresh the page. Disclaimer: By the time you take a look things may have changed.
The venue this was recorded in was a magical place in an office block by the Thames. I say magical in that by day it was an office with all the conventions of a proper office and by night (not every night) it was transformed into a sort of club which offered such delights as slightly burned pizza etc etc. The entrance to this secret night time conversion was guarded by two industrial size dustbins and that is how the most exclusive club I've ever been in was protected. If you got there early you could watch the sun go down over the Thames.
Anyhow here's a track which I like and thanks be to John, Simon, Derek, Francesca, Patrick & Rick.
Simon Rackham - voice
John Miller - keyboards
Paul Nieman - trombone
Derek Pascoe - sax
Francesca Hanley - flute
Patrick Wood - guitar
Rick Finlay - drums.
Cafe Club (at the top of an office block) on 4th January 1997. The personnel (as "Ornamental Balustrade")
