Elephant
|
The very soul of Elephant was cared for by long standing members myself, Steve Lodder, Marc Parnell, and Robin Clayton. In addition Josefina Cupido was there at its inception and at its end. Mornington Locket followed Tim Whitehead on saxophones.
Elephant had a number of recording projects and broadcasts throughout its long life but only one cd finally saw the light of day:- So below are mp3 samples of the 5 tracks that make up "The Eastcote Sessions" of 2009 |
The Eastcotte Sessions

Elephant in Paradise is by Paul / Downstairs at Lorenzo's, composed by Steve Lodder, has a history: The band played frequently at a club run in an upstairs room in Harry's pub in the East End of London hence the club's name "Upstairs at Harry's". We usually began a set with an improvisation and sets were recorded. One improvisation had a form which appealed to Steve who took the recording away and out of his analysis emerged his composition suitably called Downstairs at Lorenzo's. There now the cat's out of the bag! First Kiss lyrics and music by Josefina Cupido and once again it speaks for itself.
Bass Line Number One was originally a big band piece by John Warren in whose band I had the privilege to play (see poster below). Finally Which Is True is by our bassist Robin Clayton. Nobody ever got to the origin of the title. Finally I must mention our wonderful drummer who composed his way through every piece we ever played.
